A wall clock is an essential item for any home. Beyond its primary function of keeping us on schedule, a well-chosen wall clock adds character to a space, blending utility with style. It brings a sense of order and rhythm to our daily routines, while also serving as a subtle piece of decor that complements the atmosphere of a room. Whether it’s a kitchen, living room, or bedroom, a wall clock is more than just a timekeeping device—it’s a statement of taste and an enduring symbol of the harmony we strive to bring into our homes.

The one wall clock we think you should own is the Bankers wall clock.

Bankers Wall Clock

The Bankers wall clock was designed by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in 1970. It is a masterclass in minimalist, conceptual design. Originally crafted as part of Jacobsen’s interior for the National Bank of Denmark, the clock reflects the bank’s strict, modern aesthetic. This piece was Jacobsen’s final clock design and perhaps his most conceptual, showcasing a unique approach to timekeeping.

Breaking away from conventional clock faces, the Bankers clock forgoes numerals or standard markers, opting instead for twelve squares, with one blackened square indicating the hour. This design creates a subtle, spiraling movement from the center, adding a dynamic yet understated element to its visual impact. The clock features a concave dial with a convex glass front, adding depth and dimension, while a slim frame and an offset bracket lend a floating, almost weightless appearance on the wall.

This iconic timepiece is available in three diameters—21 cm, 29 cm, and 48 cm—making it versatile for various spaces. It runs on two AA batteries.

Overall, the Bankers wall clock by Arne Jacobsen is both practical and artistic, seamlessly blending functionality with a minimalist, modern aesthetic that remains timeless.

Also Consider

If you don’t like the design of the face of the Bankers wall clock, you can consider Arne Jacobsen’s other designs, including the Station, Roman and City Hall versions.

Another option is KOPPEL wall clocks, designed by Henning Koppel for Georg Jensen.

We also like the Raggiante wall clock, designed by Michele de Lucchi for Alessi.
